Top Sydney Filming Destination

Bare Island

This small island juts out at the mouth of Botany Bay, with its 19th century ruined fort as its main feature. Today the island is used as a popular wedding venue and makes a great base to explore the reefs around the edge of this part of the coast.

Bare Island also featured in Mission: Impossible 2 as the backdrop for a showdown between Tom Cruise and Dougray Scott.

Botanical Garden

The beautiful and sprawling Botanical Gardens cover two peninsulas from the Opera House to Mrs. Macquarie’s Chair. Offering postcard-worthy views of Sydney Harbor as well as a lush tropical backdrop, the gardens offer an oasis in the heart of the city.

With greenhouses, special gardens and scenic walks all across the site, film crews will be able to get a great harborside shots of the city. If you’re looking for a top spot for the New Year’s fireworks display, the gardens offer a fantastic vantage point of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge.

Hornby Lighthouse

This working lighthouse sits at the entrance to the Sydney Harbor, mostly spotted by visitors using the Manly Ferry. With the city as a backdrop, the lighthouse offers a beautiful view of the craggy coastline and also has a selection of small beaches nearby. Perfect for ocean footage of passing boats with the lighthouse as a focal point, especially for the Sydney Regatta.

McMahons Point

An upscale residential area on the north shore of Sydney Harbour, McMahons Point is perfect for views toward the Harbour Bridge and Opera House. The neighborhood offers a slice of residential Sydney with quaint old houses, public parks and a ferry terminal with links across the area.

Along with neighboring Kirribilli, McMahons Point is one of the most exclusive areas of Sydney with many apartments offering great views of the city. If you’re looking for a luxury apartment or house as a location, it will be in this area.

Sydney Opera House

Recognizable worldwide as the icon of Sydney and Australia, the Opera House was built in the 1950s and was inspired by the shape of the sails on a boat. It’s not just opera that’s performed here: you’ll find everything from Broadway musicals to big international artists and even local music festivals.

The Opera House sits on a promontory on the south side of the harbor, with some of the best views across the harbor towards the bridge and the city.
